Edie McClurg, who has appeared in almost ninety movies and over fifty television shows, is one of America’s favorite neighbors from Mrs. Poole on The Hogan Family to the short-lived cult classic Small Wonder as nosy neighbor, Bonnie Brindle.
Edie has a Master of Science from Syracuse and taught radio at the University of Missouri/Kansas City for eight years. There she was a DJ, newswoman and producer for the NPR affiliate. Edie debuted in Stephen King’s horror flick Carrie, and was an original member of The Groundlings comedy troop in the same year. Edie continues to act in improvise comedy with the Spoling Players in Hollywood.
Edie has been apart of some of the greatest films of our time including Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Back to School, A River Runs Through It, Natural Born Killers, and one of our personal favorites Elvira: Mistress of the Dark.
Outside of her neighborly duties and film roles Edie showcased her small screen talents on WKRP in Cincinnati as Lucille Tarlek, Willamae Jones in the television remake of Harper Valley PTA, a nurse from Shady Pines on The Golden Girls, and many more great sitcoms and dramas. She also appeared on several TV game shows, including Match Game, The $25,000 Pyramid, Password Plus, and Super Password.
Edie voiced many great animated characters on the big and small screen in; The Jetsons, The Snorks, Smurfs, Life with Louie, A Bug’s Life, Cars, Cars 2, The Little Mermaid, Wreck-It Ralph, The Secret of NIMH, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, Tiny Toon Adventures, Bobby’s World, and Clifford the Big Red Dog.
Edie has been apart of our lives for nearly forty years and she shows no signs of slowing down with four films in either post or pre production. Edie is not only one of America’s favorite neighbors but she is also Hollywood’s goto actors that can bring the comedy or the drama to any role!
